Idols of Seeta Lakshmana sameta Sri Kodanda Rama
Jagadguru Sri Madhwacharya, who preached Tatvavada also installed Krishna idol in Udupi and appointed 8 saints to worship Sri Krishna on Co-operation basis (Paryaya). These saints continued their linage & became the moola purusha of 8 different mutts called Ashta mutts.
Sri Madhwacharya initiated Sri Hrishikesha Theertha to sanyasa to worship Sri Krishna & gave Sri Madhwacharya gave him the idols of Kodanda Rama along with Seeta and Lakshmana for daily worship.
Sri Hrishikesha Theertha continued his lineage & later it is known as Palimar mutt. Sri Hrishikesha Theertha is the first pontiff / moola purusha of this mutt.
The main branch or moola stala of this mutt is in the place called, Palimar it is a pretty little village 35 km, from the temple town Udupi. The mutt is located in idyllic surroundings, where one can forget the cares of the mundane world. There is a large well-maintained lake / sarovar, adjacent to the eastern entrance of the mutt. Right in front of this entrance is the shrine of Anjaneya (Mukhyaprana), in the sitting posture. The deity is held in great awe and reverence, as the protector of Madhwa Siddhanta. At Udupi Palimar mutt is located opposite to Sri Krishna temple in front of the Kanaka’s shrine.

01 Sri Hrishikesha Theertha
Sri Hrishikesha Theertha is the 1st saint after Sri Hrishikesha Theertha in the guru parampare of Palimar mutt.

Sri Hrishikesha Theertha is believed to be the first and senior most pontiffs of the Udupi ashta mutts who were given Ashrama by Sri Madhwacharya. In Sumadhwa Vijaya, his name is mentioned as first in the sishya parampare of Sri Madhwacharya. Palimar mutt has got prominent place in Udupi ashta mutts as mentioned in kaifiyat. Paryaya starts with Palimar mutt only.
Sri Hrishikesha Theertha had made a first-hand written copy of entire “Sarvamula” of Sri Madhwacharya teachings & Siddhanta. Hand written manuscripts are still protected in Palimar mutt & it is published recently. He also composed “Sampradaya Paddathi” a small grantha contains the importance of acharyas avatara place Pajaka, childhood of Acharya, and the idols given to peethadhipathi’s of ashta mutts by acharya madhwa. It also tells about the greatness of Vishnutheertha (First Head of Sode mutt and was also Sri Madhwacharya’s brother before sanyasa) who is believed to come again to protect madhwa Siddhanta whenever it is in danger.
After initiating Ashrama to Sri Samatmesha Theertha, it is said that he entered Vrundavana at Kashi, but it needs to be confirmed after thorough research.

Sri Vidyamurthy Theertha took Ashrama from Sri Aparajita Theertha and ruled Peeta for about 18 years. He is believed to be great scholar and was well versed with all Shastras. There is stone manuscript available about him during Harihara raya of Vijayanagar kingdom. He is believed to be contemporary of Sri Jaya Theertha. He initially gave Ashrama to Sri Rajarajeswara Theertha but Rajarajeswara Theertha entered heavenly adobe before him. So he gave Ashrama to one more person and named him Sri Srinidhi Theertha. Sri Rajarajeswara Theertha praised him as “Kshitisuraguru”. After handing over Peeta to Sri Srinidhi Theertha, it is said that he entered Vrundavana at Rameswaram but it needs to be confirmed after thorough research.
06. Sri Rajarajeswara Theertha
Sri Rajarajeswara Theertha is the 6th saint after Sri Hrishikesha Theertha in the guru parampare of Palimar mutt.

Sri Rajarajeswara Theertha took Ashrama from Sri Vidyamurthy Theertha and did not become head of the mutt as he entered Vrundavana before his guru. He is great scholar and was well versed with all Shastras. He was mastered in kavya shastra. He has composed “Mangalashtaka” which will be recited during mangalakarya’s like marriages, upanayanayana etc, by all Madhwas even today which speaks about his greatness.
He has also written another work called “Sri Rama Sandesha”. It has two parts namely Poorva sandesha and Uttara Sandesha and has 83 and 70 slokas respectively.
He was also mastered in Nyaya shastra and was well debater. There is a manuscript available in the mutt about gifting of Kantavara mutt by Proudadevaraya of Vijayanagar kingdom on his name. His name shall not appear in guru parampare of the mutt because he entered Vrundavana before his guru.
07. Sri Srinidhi Theertha
Sri Srinidhi Theertha is the 7th saint after Sri Hrishikesha Theertha in the guru parampare of Palimar mutt.

Raghuparibhasha (tarkaprakarana),
Sourabha (Teeka to prameya navamalika of Narayana panditacharya)
Subhashita Mandala and some tippani’s to vedantha Grantha’s.
He wrote many songs in kannada with ankita “Raghutilaka”.
He was just 20 years when he wrote Raghunatha Vijaya. He defeated many opponents in Kashi and brought jayapatrikas made them as garland and tied it to main gate of Krishna temple in Udupi.

Sri Raghupraveera Theertha took Ashrama from Sri Raghuvara Theertha and ruled Peeta for about 30 years. Initially he took pilgrimage tour to Tirupati and had darshan of lord. He had learnt all Shastras in Arani samsthana and became expert in all Shastras. Later he went to Tirupati and had debate with great pundits like Dhanvantari Ramacharya and others, defeated them and was honoured by Arani samsthana. One Muslim Nawab by name Mohammad Raja offered swethachatra and got the blessings of swamiji.
He did 12 times Sudha mangala paata, Chandrika, Geetha Bhashya, Tantrasara, Tarka meemamsa to his disciples. He was famous for tapas Shakti, mantra Shakti, Yoga siddhi etc. he installed hanuman idol in Palimar. He wrote Hanuma-Bheema-Madhwa ashtottara shata Nama Stotra.
During his Paryaya time, one tiger killed a cow named ‘narmade’. That cow was very dear to swamiji as its milk was used for panchamrita Abhisheka to lord Krishna. Swamiji became very upset with this incident. Then he decided to do dhyaana by sitting in padmasana without even thinking of Pooja. Later the tiger came to main gate of the mutt and died. After hearing this news, swamiji stood up and did Krishna Pooja. For this reason he was called ‘Hulikonda Swamy’. As mark of this incident the tiger carving was laid on the top of his Vrundavana.
After handing over Peeta to Sri Raghubhushana Theertha he entered Vrundavana at Udupi.
25. Sri Raghubhushana Theertha

After handing over Peeta to Sri Raghuratna Theertha he entered Vrundavana at Udupi.

Sri Raghuratna Theertha is the 26th saint after Sri Hrishikesha Theertha in the guru parampare of Palimar mutt.

Sri Raghuratna Theertha took Ashrama from Sri Raghubhushana Theertha and ruled Peeta for about 39 years. Not much information is available about him even though he ruled Peeta for long time. He was great scholar. He wrote all sarva moola Grantha’s by hand and preserved it. He had collected information about the guru parampare and preserved it.
After handing over Peeta to Sri Raghupriya Theertha he entered Vrundavana at Kantavara.
27. Sri Raghupriya Theertha
Sri Raghupriya Theertha is the 27th saint after Sri Hrishikesha Theertha in the guru parampare of Palimar mutt.

Sri Raghupriya Theertha took Ashrama from Sri Vibudhapriya Theertha of admar mutt and ruled Peeta for about 32 years. Not much information is available about him. He took the responsibility of renovating Sri Krishna mutt in Udupi during his paryaya. He was honoured by king of Tiruvankore.
After handing over Peeta to Sri Raghumanya Theertha he entered Vrundavana at Palimar.
28. Sri Raghumanya Theertha
Sri Raghumanya Theertha is the 28th saint after Sri Hrishikesha Theertha in the guru parampare of Palimar mutt.

Sri Raghumanya Theertha took Ashrama from Sri Vibudhapriya Theertha of admar mutt and ruled Peeta for about 32 years. He studied all Shastras under Sri Vibudhapriya Theertha. He did his first paryaya in 19th year. He was architect of Palimar and renovated Krishna mutt during his paryaya.
Mysore kings, deewans visited Udupi during his second paryaya. He built building for Sanskrit patashala. He died in the year 1947 in madras.
After handing over Peeta to Sri Raghuvallabha Theertha he entered Vrundavana at Ghatikachala.
Sri Raghuvallabha Theertha after becoming head of mutt ruled the Peeta for about 22 years, but could not continue it. He relinquished the Peeta in 1969 and handed over the Peeta to Sri Vidyamanya Theertha.

Sri Vidyamanya Theertha is the 29th saint after Sri Hrishikesha Theertha in the guru parampare of Palimar mutt.

Sri Vidyamanya Theertha took Ashrama from Sri Vibudhapriya Theertha of admar mutt and ruled Peeta for about 31 years (1969-2000). He is a great saint born to Smt Radhamma & Sri Ramakrishna Tantri. He got Upanayana in eight year. He has learnt under Satyadhyana Theertha of Uttaradhi mutt.
Initially he was initiated sanyasa by Vibudhapriya Theertha of admar mutt and later been made head of Bhandarkere mutt by Sri Vidyavarna Theertha who was the head of that mutt. When Sri Raghuvallabha Theertha of Palimar mutt relinquished sanyasa as well as Peeta in 1969, he took in charge of both Bhandarkere and Palimar mutt. Thus he became head of both the mutts from then onwards. He got an opportunity to do Udupi Krishna Pooja after becoming head of Palimar mutt. He is the only saint after Vishnu Theertha (Poorvashrama brother of Madhwacharya) to become head of 2 mutts. Vishnu Theertha was head of Sode and Subramanya mutt.
He was Vidya guru to many famous personalities, few include Sri Viswesha Theertha (Pejawar mutt), Sri Vidyadheesha Theertha (Palimar mutt), Sri Viswapriya Theertha (admar mutt), Sri Sugunendra Theertha (Puttige mutt), Sri Vidyesha Theertha (Bhandarkere mutt), Sri Vidyavallabha Theertha (Prayaga mutt), Lakshmindra Theertha (Kundapur mutt) etc. He was a good debater and excellent speaker. He wrote many Khandana Grantha’s on opposite schools of thought. Few include,

He also wrote in Kannada like Gayatriya Gambhirya and Nastikya nirasha.
He did Kannada anuvada to tatva sankhyana, tatva viveka and khandana trayas.
He took initiative in publishing many old works of great saints. He published Vishnu Sahasranama in Kannada with detailed meaning to each name.
He tried to bring common ekadashi for all madhwas but could not succeed in achieving the same. He taught Sudha and Chandrika to many students. He was instrumental in renovating many of mutt branches. During his end he showed great regard to Sri Sushameendra Theertha of Rayara mutt. He took the hands of Sushameendra Theertha and kept on his head as he could see Rayaru in him. This incidence was romanchana.
After handing over Peeta to Sri Vidyadheesha Theertha he entered Vrundavana at Palimar.
